Page Arizona is a place for adventure but not well known. Horseshoe Bend, Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons, and Lake Powell are major attractions. Glen Canyon Dam and the Native American Dinner show are also popular spots. Visitors can enjoy the Carl Hayden Visitor Center Page, Water Holes Canyon, and Wahweap Overlook. Other attractions include Vermilion Cliffs National Monument and White Pocket, The New Wave, Marble Canyon, and Historic Navajo Bridge. The Glen Canyon Dam Overlook, Petroglyphs, and the Arizona/Utah State border welcome signs are not to be missed. The Wave and The Southern Wave are not far away in Big Water, Utah.

You will find splendid scenery. Uncongested attractions are abundant. So much is packed into a compact area. These are just a sample of the amazement you will find. It is an explorer’s haven, natural wonders oasis, and historical sites spot. Hikers love the area.

Discovering Page, AZ: A Glimpse into Its History and Charm

Page, Arizona, is more than just a gateway to stunning natural landscapes. It’s a city rich in history. It also has a unique charm. Page was established in 1957 as a housing community for workers building the Glen Canyon Dam. It has grown into a vibrant town. The town offers a blend of cultural heritage and modern amenities.

Page Arizona: A Brief History

Page’s origins are tied to the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, a monumental project that began in the 1950s. The town was named after John C. Page, a commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, and it quickly evolved from a temporary camp into a permanent settlement. The completion of the dam in 1966 led to the creation of Lake Powell, a vast reservoir that transformed the area into a hub for tourism and recreation.

Page Arizona, The City Today

Page is small city with around 7400 residents.  The town has plenty of hotels, restaurants, and boutique shops.  It even has a Wal-Mart Supercenter. I spent 3 days, 2 nights on my last trip.  I need about a week there to fully explore and make the most of the area.

I flew into Flagstaff on one trip and into Las Vegas on another.  From Flagstaff the drive is about a 2-hour jaunt and from Vegas a good 4.5 hour journey passing near Zion National Park. I would recommend the short detour to take in Zion National Park in route to Page. I did this on a previous trip.

Welcome to Page, Arizona

Today, Page is a thriving community that attracts visitors from around the world. The town boasts a variety of local shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions, reflecting its growth and diversity. The city’s close-knit community is welcoming and proud of its heritage, often hosting events and festivals that celebrate its unique history and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Page Arizona Must-Visit Attractions

While in Page, visitors can explore the John Wesley Powell Museum. It offers insights into the region’s history. The museum also shares the daring expeditions of the Colorado River. The nearby Navajo Village Heritage Center provides a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo people, who have called this land home for centuries.

I must give a big shout-out to the Best Western Plus at Lake Powell. Do not confuse it with the Best Western View of Lake Powell or the Rim Hotel.  This is my hotel of choice within Page. Get a suite…oh my, this home away from home is so roomy, quiet, clean, easy parking, close to nearby attractions, and food within walking distance.

Even after visiting the above-named attractions on several trips, they still put me in awe. I seem to find something new on each visit.  So yes, I’m ready to return.  I prefer mid-October to mid-November to visit. The weather is pleasant, and the summer crowds have ceased.

Travel tip: If you have trouble climbing stairs, then pass on the Lower Antelope tour. You might be ok with the Upper Antelope Canyon tour. The stairs are at the end of the tour, and they are not as strenuous as the Lower Antelope. Take in all the views. At Horseshoe Bend, it’s about a mile walk to the site. There is little shade. There is not much to see until you arrive at the canyon. Restrooms are available at the parking lot.
